RABY INDOOR CRICKET CENTRE
The Raby Indoor Cricket Centre was conceived as a contemporary replacement for the existing facility, responding to significant population growth across the Macarthur region and the increasing demand for high-quality, inclusive sporting infrastructure. The project delivers a fit-for-purpose indoor training venue that supports both community participation and high-performance sport.
The new centre accommodates six indoor cricket lanes designed in accordance with Cricket Australia guidelines. As the first regional, high-performance indoor cricket training facility serving the greater Macarthur and Southern Highlands regions, the project addresses a critical gap in local sporting infrastructure and provides a valuable resource for athletes, clubs and the wider community.
New amenities were integral to the project brief and include contemporary male and female change facilities, gender-neutral and accessible amenities, and supporting kitchen facilities—addressing significant shortcomings of the former centre and ensuring the building is welcoming and inclusive for all users.
The building is carefully integrated into the broader sports precinct, responding to established pedestrian movement patterns and existing site levels. A change in topography is leveraged to create a clear and welcoming entry sequence, with amenities positioned to form a natural viewing platform overlooking the main netted training area and opening the building to the playing space below.
A south-facing sawtooth roof profile defines the building’s architectural character, introducing abundant natural light to the batting lanes while expressing the building’s function. The articulated roof form gives the centre a dynamic presence within the precinct, reflecting the energy and activity of indoor cricket.
