Merrylands Soccer Amenities

Holroyd City Council commissioned Melocco & Moore to design the Merrylands Amenities Building. The brief called for the design and documentation of new grandstand and amenity facilities for the sporting precinct at Merrylands Park.

The building is located at the junction of three ovals. These ovals are also used as stormwater detention for the suburb. The design solution raised the amenities above the level of the fields on a concrete base. The simple concrete podium provides stepped grandstand seating and also acts as a stormwater weir.

The building form is divided into two parts reflecting varied pedestrian flows from the surrounding areas and through the central open breezeway. A large simple folded roof form gathers and unifies the building parts and gracefully extends to provide shelter to the external seating. The design of the striped roof drew it’s inspiration from the banded patterns created by the green keepers on the adjacent ovals.
