CEC GLENHOMES OVAL AMENITIES BUILDING

Cec Glenhomes Oval Amenities Building
Shellharbour City Council

This project involved the adaptation of Shellharbour City Council’s standard sports amenities design to better reflect and enhance the unique context of the Cec Glenhomes Oval site.

The oval features two adjacent sporting fields separated by a narrow 10-metre corridor, which functions as a key pedestrian spine and informal spectator zone, framed by lightweight steel-framed tiered seating. The original amenities block, positioned at the southern end of this corridor, disrupted natural pedestrian flow across the site.

Our design response re-establishes this central axis by introducing a narrow, elongated building form aligned with the existing spine. By placing the main community spaces along this corridor, the building supports continuous movement from the northern boundary, between the fields, through the facility, and into the car park. This extended linear connection enhances both the site’s functionality and legibility, providing a clear and welcoming entry sequence for patrons.

A raised commentator’s box, located above and adjacent to the community spaces, is positioned centrally to afford clear views across both fields. Its form projects above the main roofline, acting as a visual marker and reinforcing the pedestrian axis within the broader landscape.
