Wilkinson Modern

The Vaucluse Apartments project involved alterations to an large dual occupancy dwelling that has frontage Sydney Harbour. The original dwelling was designed by the revered architect and educator Sir Leslie Wilkinson. This was a landmark feature building in Vaucluse of important heritage value.

The renovation acknowledges and enhances the character of the original building. At the same time it has been transformed into two modern and sophisticated apartments. At the street frontage two distinct entry points have been introduced and set within a grand sandstone wall. Behind this wall are new double garages and first floor studio spaces for both apartments. The main house was internally modified and upgraded within the original fabric.

The harbourside elevation of the original house is considered to be of high heritage value. The famous Wilkinson features of arched openings and french doors were enhanced. The result successfully integrates contemporary design within a heritage framework through intelligent and sensitive design.

The Corporation Building was another project by Melocco & Moore architects requiring sophisticated conservation design ability
