Katoomba Affordable Residential project has brought about the rebirth of a rundown and near derelict heritage guest house in the heart of Katoomba, Blue Mountains. The building has been transformed into vibrant residential accommodation of 16 one and two bedroom units over 3 levels for seniors living and affordable housing. The project has revitalised an important heritage landmark building and street corner of Katoomba and brings affordable accommodation to the area.
The redevelopment includes residential apartments with generous outdoor balconies and gardens as well as internal and external community spaces. An original Art Deco period curved brick facade has been preserved and integrated to the project to maintain an historic and distinctive street presence. A new light weight framed and clad building is integrated behind the brick facade and is in keeping with the Art Deco heritage of the site and surrounding suburb.
The need and opportunity for this type of housing in this area was recognised by Uniting Care Australia who developed the site and brought it successfully to completion. The building is fully occupied and a successful and integrated part of the Katoomba community.
