Stylish International

Melocco and Moore were engaged by Mondell Property Group, to upgrade and refurbish the classic 1950’s apartment block, the Drumalbyn Rd Apartments, on the slopes of Bellevue Hill.

The building was originally designed and built by Hungarian-born architect L.T. Rayner in 1957. The architect had just returned to Sydney after completing architectural work for the 1954 Melbourne Olympic Games. Rayner designed the modern apartment block in the ‘International Style’ for the steep site, complete with coloured spandrel panels, extensive use of concrete, and a flat roof.

Melocco and Moore took great care to maintain the look and feel of the block, whilst managing to update the building to current regulations. A new triangular studio apartment was added at the base of the building.
